A collection exclusive to HB&CO. – the ‘Plank’ Series was inspired by simplicity. Plank is a solid furniture range, using solid blackwood and featuring handcrafted details and a finish suited to the Central Queensland lifestyle.

When the decision was made to use solid blackwood, it became important to ensure the natural beauty of the timber was evident in the finished products. This meant paring back any superfluous detail and concentrating on simple methods of construction. The heavy dimensions of the designs were important to give the series a sense of gravity, solidity and timelessness. The soft edges, literal construction and generous proportions of this furniture range are designed to bring a sense of calm & reliability to a room. Groove details on the side panels and the heavy timber dowels serve to enhance the solid nature of the range and to complement rather than compete with the natural beauty of the timber.

Blackwood is a member of the Acacia family and is native to Australia, Indonesia and New Guinea. The timber is dense (and therefore heavy). The natural beauty of blackwood is a result of variations in colour, from gold to dark brown, greens, reds and black combining with a distinctive grain that can be both straight and wavey. Each piece of Plank furniture is brushed by hand with a wire brush prior to lacquering to create a finish that is textural and not precious so that it is ideal for the demands of everyday use.
